Coping with life

Here at SD Mind we try our best to create a warm and empathetic atmosphere. When you enroll on one of our Coping With Life Courses (CWL) there will be a brief assessment to ensure the course is suitable to you and your needs. The courses are run with small groups so as not to overwhelm, 2 hours per week over a six week period.

About the Courses

Our courses were developed by Bromley Mind and are part of the IAPT Services (Improved Access to Psychological Therapies) within Bromley and other regions of England, Scunthorpe and District Mind are licensed and have trained facilitators to deliver these courses.

All of our CWL courses involve directed/guided self help and are classed as psychoeducation.

What you can expect

You can expect to follow a structured programme of learning based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques. CBT is a form of psychology that has an impressive evidence base for its effectiveness against a number of mental health problems.

Coping With Anxiety

Identify particular thought patterns that are unhelpful which, together with certain behaviors, serve to maintain problems rather than cure them. You will learn new skills that are proven to be effective in helping to manage anxiety.

Managing your Anger

Understand what anger is, how it is maintained and develop a range of strategies to effectively manage your anger.


Develop a range of skills that enable us to be more assertive, identify barriers to assertive behaviour, understand what assertive behaviour is and more.

Coping with Depression

Learn how depression is maintained, identify vicious cycles of depression, daily activity logs, identify and challenge your own unhelpful negative thinking.

Coping With Loss and Change

Grief is our response to loss, but what does this mean? Discuss the different phases within a persons grief cycle, typical reactions of significant loss and change.

Coping with Stress

Stress is the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure or other types of demands placed on them. Learn the different reactions to stress and how our thoughts, feelings and behaviors maintain stress, most importantly how we can problem solve and cope with our stress.

Building Self Esteem

What is self esteem/low self esteem? how is low self esteem maintained, how it effects us, cause and effect, become more confident and plan for the future.

Due to the demand of our CWL courses if you wish to take part we are at present taking bookings, once we have enough people to begin a new course and staff to facilitate, timings and dates are arranged and course joining instructions forwarded to participants.
